Prep: Brew your coffee to your liking (I prefer mine strong) and bring to room temperature before pouring into an ice tray and freezing for 3-4 hours until solid.
Add the frozen coffee cubes, milk, maple syrup, cocoa powder, and a small pinch of salt to the jar of a high-powered blender.
Blend until smooth and well combined. The consistency will be thick like a milkshake.
Pour your icy beverage into a glass of your choice and serve immediately.
- I highly recommend using a freshly brewed higher end ground coffee over instant coffee for the best flavor profile.
- If you don't want to freeze your freshly brewed coffee, freeze your milk into ice cubes instead!
- If you don't have an ice cube tray you can pour your cooled coffee into Ziploc bags and, after removing as much of the air as you can and sealing the bags, place them into your freezer.
- For a real caffeinated kick add 1 tsp of baking espresso powder to your drink before blending.
- To make a java chip version, add in 4-5 whole coffee beans and 2 tbsp of chocolate chips before blending.
- You can use more or less maple syrup according to your sweetness preference.
- For a more traditional topping, add a dollop of Whipped Coconut Cream on top for a clean-eat version of regular whipped cream.
